Recovery

Here is an article about the drug treatment cottage industry in Philadelphia. While the article is a little old the picture remains the same and mirrors the state of drug treatment in Baltimore. I visited Recovery King in Philly some weeks ago, and ODAAT (One Day At A Time). People at both programs mentioned the exodous of ex-offenders and substance abusers from Baltimore. They are picking up the overflow because there aren't enough beds for treatment here. That's how rampant addiction is in this town.

  1. My "Born-and-raised Minnesotan goes to Chester" story... short, but sweet.

From 2001-2003 I went to school at Mary Washington College (I refuse, really, to call it University of Mary Washington... gag) in Fredericksburg. My first year I had two roommates: one from Maine, the other from Chester. My second year we added a girl from Arlington and had a quad.

We ended up spending a fair amount of time in Chester because it wasn't terribly far and we liked to travel around. Most of my memories of Chester are at night, so I really don't know too much about it (I also have a tendency to get Chester and Newport News scenary mixed up because we would go back and forth between those places a lot). But, my roommate's house was haunted, or so she says, so I was always a little jumpy about being there. The first thing I do if I ever get back to VA, though, is go to a WaWa. God I miss WaWa.

  2. The wawa in Fredericksburg is sublime and is probably offering those $1.16 gas prices you were dreaming of, as we speak. They are the cheapest around. I'll stop by there this weekend on my way to go see my brother and pick you up a cup of coffee. Cream and sugar?

  3. Damn... I knew they were cheaper, but not that much! Chester always had the cheapest gas, though.

Not a coffee drinker, myself. My weakness lies in their chicken ceasar sandwich. Yum.

  4. After checking virginiagasprices.com, I've discovered that WaWa's gas is ten cents more expensive than that of my current gas station. But, Sam's Club doesn't have those sandwiches...
