On Whaling, Part II
"There you stand, lost in the infinite series of the sea, with nothing ruffled but the waves. The tranced ship indolently rolls; the drowsy trade winds blow; everything resolves you into languor. For the most part, in this tropic whaling life, a sublime uneventfulness invests you; you hear no news; read no gazettes; extras with startling accounts of commonplaces never delude you into unnecessary excitements; you hear of no domestic afflictions; bankrupt securities; fall of stocks; are never troubled with the thought of what you shall have for dinner--for all your meals for three years and more are snugly stowed in casks, and your bill of fare is immutable." --Herman Melville, Moby Dick

Carry the Zero
I'm not knocking your want
to carry that home
took it with you
when you moved and got it broke
found the pieces
we counted them all alone
didn't add up
forgot to carry a zero
I can't be your
apologist very long
I'm surprised that
you'd want to carry that on
count your blemishes
you can't
they're all gone
I can't see your response
putting them back on
like they're waiting for your guard to fall
so they can see it all and you're so
occupied with what other persons are
occupied with
and vice versa
and you've become
what you thought was dumb
a fraction of the sum
yeah, you've become
yeah, you have become
a fraction of the sum
the middle and the front
and now it's coming back
hasn't it come too far?
I was trying to help but I guess
I pushed too hard
now we can't even touch it
afraid it'll fall apart

Day With The Bishop Extended Clan
Seven men attacked the Chesapeake recently and I am happy to report the men won.
I was honored to be invited by the Bishops. The Bay was magnificent, the air was frigid, and to a man we were all witty, robust and, frankly, pretty fearsome.

We were not only a boatload of killers, however. We were, each of us, artists.

Poets, philosophers.

But mostly, killers.

This is Kevin Wild Man Fish Hunter. You do not mess around with Kevin Wild Man Fish Hunter.

The Steves.

Jeff did NOT puke. Jeff, in fact, flourished. And what joy that brought each of us.

I look forward to doing it again.

Common People
Some time ago the gauntlet was thrown down. In responding to "Common People - Mean and Mocking OR a British Blue Collar Anthem?" Jefe feels that the fact that he has so far been uncontested means that he has finally won the argument. Somebody please tell him why he's wrong.
