Digital Camel Tours Presents...

Christmas EXTREME!!!!!!!!!!

Trans-Siberian Orchestra turned to eleven, baby!

Time Capsule

If my records are correct, 13 years ago tonight was quite memorable. Oh Deborah, do you recall-"We don't want to have any confrontation?", "Swedish Dick" followed by James' WahWah exploding, and of course Andy Griffith receiving a colorful prescription for weekly health from Aunt Bea. Oh yeah, and the marinara sauce tasted like battery acid and there was this grid on the roof of 1123 Grove.
In the month of November 1995 I was listening to:
Boo Radleys- Wake Up, Boo!
Garbage-The Queerest of the Queer
Grateful Dead-It Must've Been the Roses
Magnetic Fields-The Desperate Things You Made Me Do
Leonard Cohen-Death of a Lady's Man

"The air all around the world is a little cleaner"

Went to the Birchmere last night to see legendary folk hero Joan Baez. There was an amazing energy flowing through the sold out crowd. It was like we were all little kids at Christmas again. As I walked across an aisle with my Obama shirt on, a lady pointed at me, smiled, and started clapping. She must've been 60. I don't think I've ever received applause from strangers in my whole life. Joan opened up by letting the crowd know she was pretty tired because she'd been up all night screaming in the streets of DC. She had been at her hotel in Alexandria when the call was made, and she took a cab downtown to join the celebration. She spoke warmly of her friendship with Martin Luther King, her amazement at where we have finally arrived, and someone shouted out "thank you, Virginia!", and the crowd roared with glee. The title quote was her comment on the good news of the week. For the encore she came out and broke into "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", which immediately reminded me of my victory post here the other night. And as everyone sang along forcefully, it was clear that we were of one mind, that finally the last shred of the Confederacy had been torn down. It was a beautiful moment.

Leaving the neighborhood while at the park just now, i'll describe his covert ride tommorrow as not to endanger him.

the local playground

Trying not to think about the causes of seventy degree weather and lush October colors in Chicago on a November day.
Also trying not to think of what tonight might bring.

Election Day 2008

For some reason I envision a South Park-ish McCain dancing around the polling precincts of America.

Nothing but Crickets and Crunching Leaves

Just back in from putting out door hangers on 50 more houses in the area. Pain in the ass in the dark because these are really microtargeted and it's hard to read addresses in the gloomlight. When I arrived at the campaign office there was a line out the door of people waiting to pick up literature for distribution. It was inspiring to see so many out in force. So after two different tours of duty today in three neighborhoods I've got a burning blister and I stink from sweat, but the night was beautiful, moist and filled with the autumn auditory orchestra of decay. Now off to bed for a few hours. I gotta be in line to vote by 5am so I get in right away so the wife can then come up while I watch the kids.

Moonlighting

Already this evening I have delivered GOTV info to nearly 100 houses in Fairfax. I will be back on the streets later tonight. I hope all you digital slacking camel asses appreciate me turning Virginia blue for you.

Expansionism (Unfolding Saga, Pt. 22)

TEXT: "I'm moving to Denver in a month to be CO's death penalty specialist. Fun! Hope you're well."

In a matter of seconds my phone was ringing. I looked out the window of the car onto York, PA. There was that stupid muscle man lifting barbells. A McDonald's off I-83. Some industrial warehouses.

Another 15 seconds and my phone was buzzing. I had a voicemail.

TEXT: "On the road, call you later?"
TEXT: "Sounds good."

I put my phone in my pocket. There were going to be leaves and trees. This American Life was right in the middle of explaining the latest on the economic woes. I was born in Boston.

Tested

One of McCain's claims to the presidency is that there would be no crisis to test him because he's been tested. But...didn't he crack under the pressure the time he was tested and end up confessing to war crimes, and wasn't this confession then used as North Vietnamese propaganda?
Secondly, an ad in this area he's running claims, "Obama has no executive experience". Neither does McCain except for the one major decision he had to make, picking Palin.

Overcoming Shyness

I've been meaning to go out and canvass for awhile, but I always backed out because I am such an introvert and didn't like the idea of knocking on peoples' doors and asking for their vote. Well, I sucked it up today and went out canvassing all morning in Chantilly. The campaign is heavily targeted at this point trying to hit sporadic voters and undecideds. Everyone I met was very nice, including a guy who recently got out of jail and was excited his voting rights had been restored. He said I was the third Obama supporter to visit him in the last week or two and he was impressed that we cared so much about his vote. There were a few who declared their allegiance to McCain and I thanked them for their time. They were polite too, and I wonder if they were wondering how come their candidate doesn't have people in the field everywhere in VA today?

What made me feel even better today was that when I got home Michelle said the AFL-CIO had been by to canvass us and left us some stickers and signs. Then a short while later another knock at the door and another canvasser for Obama! The army is on the march! Meanwhile McCain, is in Springifeld today campaigning at a moving company warehouse in an industrial park while tomorrow Hillary will be filling the Patriot Center to the rafters as she campaigns for Barack. Finally barack himself will be here Monday night in Manassas, but i won't be there. I've already committed to a dinner time canvassing and a midnight literature drop.

It is going to happen on Tuesday!!!

And it couldn't come fast enough. I'm suffering from severe crack addiction, aka Nate Silver's website. I follow every obscure state or national poll like it's fantasy baseball stats. I get up an extra hour early for work now just to see what all's going on, and I can't leave for work until I see the 7:30am release of the Research 2000 daily tracking poll.

In the past I always voted against somebody, and it wasn't very thrilling. I'm sure that's the way many GOP voters must feel right now. For the first time ever I'm voting for somebody, actually for two people as I feel just as good about Mark Warner for senate.

Anyways, what a week for me-Halloween, daughter turns three, Barack wins white house, and son turns one!
