Untangling Leviathan

It took 32 years, but I finally did something manly on Wednesday night. The above is a photo taken looking down from 20 feet up of the largest creature I've ever caught in my life-a Manta Ray. I hooked this monster on the Rodanthe Pier on Hatteras Island using squid. Unfortunately this picture is as close as I ever got to him as soon thereafter he broke my 15 pound test line. I'm not sure how well you can tell from the pic, but he had a wingspan of at least 3 feet and could leap several feet out of the water to fight against your noble fisher. He was far too heavy to ever be landed on a pier using my minimal tackle, but it was worth a try. Shau nsuggested trying to walk all the way back to the beginning of the pier and pull him in from the beach once he was played out, but that would have required lifting my pole over many heads and tangling many lines. This creature though is the only thing I've ever desired to take to the taxidermist.
Shaun's flounder.

An atlantic Spadefish, oddly hooked through the belly.

  2. No, we didn't keep the flounder. We aren't skilled in cilleting. You're right they are yummy.
