Best lines (song) you've heard this year.

I was interested in what good lyrics you guys have heard thus far this year. I thought of this after hearing the line,

I'm writing a list
Of songs I can sing by myself

"Backstage with the Modern Dancers" - Great Lake Swimmers

i'll add more as i come across them.

  3. I was thinking about Alicia Keys
    couldn't keep from crying
When she was born in Hell's kitchen
I was living down the line
I'm wondering where in the world
    Alicia Keys could be
    I been looking for her
    even clear through Tennessee.

  4. Maybe the sun will shine today
    The clouds will blow away
Maybe I won’t feel so afraid
    I will try to understand
    Either way

  7. Totally agree, that albums is full of beautiful little concessions.

    The streetlights glow
    Comes and goes
    When the sun comes back
As we all can plainly see
    Embracing the situation
Is our only chance to be free
    I’ll side with you
    If you side with me

  9. The lyrics are pretty much elementary psychedelic cliches buried under vocoder and effects, but the Black Moth Super Rainbow album, Dandelion Gum, is the best new album I've heard all year.

  10. "Sometimes I wish I was a pretty girl
So I could wreck myself in the shower."
    ---Robyn Hitchcock

(To me it sounds like he's saying "root myself" which would be even better, but the official lyrics pages says otherwise).
It's from his recently re-released album "I Often Think of Trains", which is an incredible listen

    cleaning toilets
    at a nightclub
    in Baltimore
    And I guess that's that"

    -Cass McCombs

His new album Dropping the Writ is more likely my favorite album I've heard this year.
