Supposedly by the year 2100 the place will be virtually unihabitable due to increased temps and drastically reduced precipitation. So that shopping mall feel should dissipate in time for your great grandchildren to get a feel for what a great desert the Sonoran is. Or they can just cross at Sonoita and head on into the Pinacate where no malls mar the scene.
