I've been meaning to go out and canvass for awhile, but I always backed out because I am such an introvert and didn't like the idea of knocking on peoples' doors and asking for their vote. Well, I sucked it up today and went out canvassing all morning in Chantilly. The campaign is heavily targeted at this point trying to hit sporadic voters and undecideds. Everyone I met was very nice, including a guy who recently got out of jail and was excited his voting rights had been restored. He said I was the third Obama supporter to visit him in the last week or two and he was impressed that we cared so much about his vote. There were a few who declared their allegiance to McCain and I thanked them for their time. They were polite too, and I wonder if they were wondering how come their candidate doesn't have people in the field everywhere in VA today?
What made me feel even better today was that when I got home Michelle said the AFL-CIO had been by to canvass us and left us some stickers and signs. Then a short while later another knock at the door and another canvasser for Obama! The army is on the march! Meanwhile McCain, is in Springifeld today campaigning at a moving company warehouse in an industrial park while tomorrow Hillary will be filling the Patriot Center to the rafters as she campaigns for Barack. Finally barack himself will be here Monday night in Manassas, but i won't be there. I've already committed to a dinner time canvassing and a midnight literature drop.
It is going to happen on Tuesday!!!
And it couldn't come fast enough. I'm suffering from severe crack addiction, aka Nate Silver's website. I follow every obscure state or national poll like it's fantasy baseball stats. I get up an extra hour early for work now just to see what all's going on, and I can't leave for work until I see the 7:30am release of the Research 2000 daily tracking poll.
In the past I always voted against somebody, and it wasn't very thrilling. I'm sure that's the way many GOP voters must feel right now. For the first time ever I'm voting for somebody, actually for two people as I feel just as good about Mark Warner for senate.
Anyways, what a week for me-Halloween, daughter turns three, Barack wins white house, and son turns one!
good for you. it amazes me that virginia could go blue, what a change. i remember when i was in high school ollie north almost won a senate seat there.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Ollie North came and spoke at Ryan and Kev's whack church shortly before election day. It's amazing that if you oppose abortion it's okay that you helped run an illegal war in a foreign country funded by illegal arms sales. Thank god he lost!
